Wind and rain arrived from the Southwest at 07:00 and continued until around 16:00. Making the most of the time indoors Sam and Stuart uploaded ringing totals online but more importantly completed the infamous Marks and Spencer ‘British’ birds in 1 hour and 45 minutes. The puzzle includes Hummingbird and Blue Jay and mistakes such as calling a Dipper an Oriole and misnaming the Giant Spotted Woodpecker.
Rainy day entertainment
Whilst in the eye of the storm Sam and Stuart headed out for census. It was quiet as expected, however there were seabirds moving past within 100m of the coast including Manx Shearwaters, Kittiwakes, Gannets and Fulmars. It was particularly impressive this evening with several rafts of over 500 Manx Shearwaters and many more streaming south, all waiting to come onto the island after dark.
